Anya Gallaccio – Kasterlinden
Curator - Win Van den Abbeele
Kasterlinden school, Berchem-Sainte-Agathe (Brussels), Belgium, 10th of June 2017
The context
The children at the Kasterlinden Institute suffer from visual, hearing and language impairments as well as autistic disorders.
The commission
In response to the exclusion that affects these children, commissioned artist Anya Gallaccio has created a particular work. The first proposals involve new anatomical models of complex ear, eye and throat ear canal models requiring the development of specific software. The scientific contributions of these scientists motivated the Universities of Louvain and San Diego (where Gallaccio resides) to take an interest and contribute their expertise. The fact that the scientific world invests and collaborates, more graciously, is well perceived by the children and the institute's team: a pure antidote to exclusion!
